About
I have been teaching/tutoring math for the past 40 years. I have taught/ tutored basic math, prealgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, SAT, ACT and TSI prep for college entrance at a high school in San Marcos, Texas and Austin Community College. I have dozens of students and parents that have used my services over the years and will testify to my ability to break down math into basics that students understand easily. I have authored a Geometry book and a fundamentals math prep book for college entrance exams like SAT, ACT and TSI. I have also spent 2 years teaching GED in inner-city Indianapolis. I have the ability to break math down into steps as well as evaluating where the problems are when someone is struggling with a math concepts. Fundamentals are the key to upper level math concepts and entrance tests. I was voted San Marcos "Secondary Teacher of the Year" two different years and my nickname was "The Math Whisperer."

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would like to know what lesson they are working on and the skills required. I love to ask questions about what they already know and then figure out what basic skills are either missing or in need of polishing to teach the skill.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught every class that I tutor. I have had workshops on Learning Styles, manipulatives and test prep training.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I currently charge $50 an hour. I tell parents/students I prefer cash and payment at the time of service.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I had wonderful teachers growing up and many mentors in my lifetime that I have learned from.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored all the way from college bound to at-risk students. I was chosen from all the math teachers in my district to teach at a special at-risk school of choice program called Phoenix.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was voted by my prres and staff as "Secondary Teacher of the Year" in both 2005 and 2019.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When tutoring, it is often necessary to recognize when a student is struggling with a concept. This may be that they have not learned or mastered a basic skill required. I am patient and love helping students master math concept.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should review their notes/lesson and do as much work as possible before meeting with a tutor. This will ensure that the tutor can spend qualit time on exactly what skill a student is in need of.
