About

Hi, I'm Lexy! I am a subject and test prep tutor devoted to helping others become more efficient learners and have worked with students of all ages in courses like English, reading/writing, science, math, and Spanish I. I specialize in SAT and ACT tutoring. I have over 400 hours of professional virtual and in-person tutoring experience with PrepNow, Inc/StudyPoint, Inc and Splendid Tutoring. My students average at around a 150+ point score increase, with my highest scoring student hitting a 1460. Throughout my education career, I have worked as a substitute teacher, graduate TA, tutor, and teaching aid.

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in marine biology. As an undergraduate, I acted as a student advocate in a family literacy program, which focused on giving active, innovative education programs that integrated science, math, art, reading, and technology (SMART). I also hold an MS in biological sciences from the University of Notre Dame, where I worked with hundreds of students as a graduate teaching assistant.

Since finishing my master's in 2022, I trek to the most remote areas of Alaska as a field ecologist and researcher. I am also a leader in the research station’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, enhancing recruitment methods of underrepresented people in STEM and improving science communication via social media presence.

I describe my tutoring style as “fun and patient.” I'm quick to assess any learning gaps and adapt to meet my students’ needs. I see myself as a mentor, working to help students reach specific academic and professional goals. Ultimately, I want my students to be more proficient, passionate learners. I like to say that helping students become more confident in their own abilities comes first. I love witnessing the growth that takes place when students become more comfortable with a concept that once threw them for a loop!

As a high school senior, I was awarded the Terry Foundation Scholarship, which gave me a full ride to Texas A&M University. As a graduate student, I won the GEM Associate Fellowship, which focused on promoting opportunities and increasing the participation of underrepresented groups. I was also awarded the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Scholar Award (funded by the National Science Foundation), which supports historically underrepresented students in STEM.

In my spare time, I love hiking, exploring national parks, and traveling. I am also fond of karaoke, hot yoga, and dancing. Having started scuba diving at age 13, I am a certified diver!
