Hello. My name is Sharronda Smith, I have a Bachelor’s in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from UTSA and I’ve been a High School Science Teacher for 14 years.
I’ve taught:
• Biology (Regular and Pre-AP)
• Physics (Regular and Pre-AP)
• Chemistry (Regular and Pre-AP)
• Environmental Systems
• Earth and Space
• Introduction to Engineering Design
My teaching methodology is based upon meaning making. Whatever the kid is interested in, if I can present the information in a way that helps them connect the information to a concept that is important to them then, they are more likely to remember and extrapolate the concept to a deeper level. I’ve noticed, students struggling with a concept need meaning making along with the following techniques to varying degrees:
• Clear Learning Goal
• Mnemonic devices
• Concept mapping
• Problem Solving Skills
• Reciprocal teaching
• Student Efficacy (Competence with confidence)
I care deeply about each student’s success. As a tutor I will utilize the same pedagogy I use in the classroom. I’ll gauge the academic needs of the student, with the student and family create an academic goal then implement a strategic plan to attain said goal.
