Reagan Junior Forensic Association
About
Hi, This is Tristan, I specifically do Multi Variable calculus, mechanical engineering, and Thermodynamics, However I focus on tutoring students in middle school or below on mathematics based courses. Besides having qualfied for state in literary criticism, I am a three times national qualifier in Cross Examination Debate, and have placed first at 4 nation wide tournaments just this year. I first started tutoring three years ago, when i was handed the responsibility to help run the junior forensics assoication for middle school debate districts. it was then that i began to learn how to effectifely engage with younger students in middleschool, and help them be more productive in debate and school related curriculums. I have only recently made the shift to specializing on tutoring mathematics, as I have the most knowledge on that topic. I hope to help your child not just learn mathematics, but to help them eventually develop the skills needed to be able to consistenly perform highly so that they can continue to strive for greatness even when we are not around.
For me the biggest joy when tutoring is seeing someone become fully self sufficient to the point where they no longer need me. It is a nearly indescribably feeling of mostly joy, with a tinge of sadness, as they have not only excelled, but developed the skills so that they can excell at any other subject they please to.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing i try to do is get to know the student, this means knowing what extracurriculur's their involved in, their name (although thats a given), their hobby's, and their favorite classes. I find it particularly useful as it helps me find ground on which i can make metaphors or analogies that may help the student understand more complex mathematical concepts. for example, if a student is having trouble understanding geometric funcions, but i know they love bowling, then i could explain geometric functions to them as simliar to the way in which bowling is scored, I find that this is usually the most effective way to convey theoretical concepts.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
my personal education curriculum revolves around multi variable calculus, and physics. However in terms of experience i have tutoring, i spent three years tutoring the students of multiple middle schools on cross examination debate, study habits, and effective research. More importantly, it was during this time that I learned the fundamentals of how to best interact with students of that age so that they may become efficient and proficient at whichever curriculum they desire.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typically I charge 20$ per hour, however if your family is in a particular financial bind, we can discuss varying these rates.
What types of students have you worked with?
The majority of my experience is with tutoring middle schoolers, however there have been multiple instances where i have visited elementaries and would tutor groups of fifth grade children. It is because of this that i prefer to teach children between the grades of 5-8, however I can adjust how i tutor to suit your childs needs if they are not yet in fifth grade.
