About

I love seeing students change from people who struggle to being people who win!

I have a graduate minor in mathematics. I taught all levels of mathematics from grade 6 to undergraduate college courses. I worked in classroom instruction for 31 years and have been a mathematic instruction coach for 20 years. I was secondary teacher of the year twice in my district.

I have many other accomplishments I will relate if necessary.

Frequently asked questions

Students are asked to tell me what they are struggling with so we don't waste time on stuff they already know.   I let the student do the work while we talk through understanding.

I am qualified to teach at the college level.  I have been involved in training teachers in mathematics instruction most of my career.

I work out pricing with family.  I charge less if they come to me.

Teaching was my career choice.  Math teaching was my first assignment, but not what I requested.   I was afraid of math and by learning it myself, I became very able at explaining it to students.

I have succesfully worked with students with some learning difficulties through all capabilities including the gifted and talented, all ethnicities, all socio-economic levels.

A recent student was a female retired  army sergeant who needed only her math credit to earn her degree.  Over the course of the semester she moved from struggling to competent, made a B in the class and graduated.  She made a special trip to my house to show me her course grace and diploma.

Look for a tutor who doesn't just tell you how to do something, but who explains why you do it.  Always ask them to teach for understanding.

1.  How do I learn best?

2.  What are the concepts I am struggling with?

3.  What strategies can I use to work through a problem when my tutor isn't with me?
