About

I am a graduate of Alabama State University and have a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics. I have years of experience helping students in the ASU mathematics lab and have tutored at community colleges in the Dallas, Texas area. I also hold free small group classes every summer. Topics that I have tutored include K-8 Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus.

During the first few sessions, I get to know each person and some things about the course that they are taking such as the syllabus content, the type of grade wanted in the course, the number of points each assignment is worth, and the date of the next major test. I then try to hold tutoring sessions in accordance with this information.

During a session, I go over homework, explain concepts that may be misunderstood, go over topics that I think are especially important, and sometimes give practice problems. Periodically, I would ask about the grade that was made on a recent test and modify my tutoring style as necessary. My goal is to help everyone that I tutor strengthen their mathematical skills.

I normally tutor by appointment and each session usually lasts for about 1 hour. In order to reschedule or cancel an appointment, I request a 10-hour notice. Missed sessions may be charged for the first 15 minutes. I am willing to meet in a public place or online.

To help better prepare for the sessions, I request that the problems or concepts that we will work on be sent a few hours in advance.

If we are not able to meet live, I am willing to compose a written lesson covering the requested topics.

If you would like for me to purchase a textbook as well, please let me know.

If a student is currently enrolled in a course, I look forward to getting to know their instructor and formulating a plan to better assist the student.

Feel free to send me a message and we can get started! Thank you. :)

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, I use the first session to develop get to know the student and develop rapport. I take time to understand who they are and how they learn. I make sure to keep in contact with the student, parents, and/or teacher to plan on how to further help them reach their goals.

I am graduate of Alabama State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics. I have over nine years experience with tutoring math in person and online.

My pricing system is usually per hour with written lessons counted for 2/3 of the hourly rate. Sessions may also be priced in packages such when sessions are grouped for preparation for a standardized test.
I began tutoring as a peer tutor in the mathematics lab of Alabama State University. I helped students with subjects such as College Algebra, Finite Math, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I have worked with students from many different backgrounds including local and international students. I have worked with students in grades K-12, college, and adult learners on different platforms.
Earlier this year, I had tutored a student who was nearing the end of the school year but had a failing grade in math. I had been able to work with him to pull up his grade as well as complete his missing assignments. With patience and persistence, he was able to pull up his grade. At the end of the school year, he was given an award for his performance in math.
I would advise the student to find someone with whom they are comfortable working with as I believe that a good relationship with the tutor goes a long way towards a student's performance.
One question that a student should consider is "What are my goals in the class?". These may include the learning outcome that the student is looking for as well as the grade that the student is expecting to earn. Upon answering this question, I advise that the student considers the resources that he/she may have and the amount of work that he/she is willing to put towards reaching that goal. Another question is "What resources do I have available that can help me achieve those goals?". These resources can include tutoring with the teacher, after school tutoring, and/or their personal tutor. I like to point students to all of the resources that they may have available to them.
