Frequently asked questions

My typical process for working with a new student is straightforward: - Understand Your Goals: We’ll start by discussing what you want to achieve and any specific areas where you need help. - Assess Current Levels: I’ll review your current knowledge and identify areas for improvement. - Create a Personalized Plan: Based on our discussion and assessment, I’ll develop a customized plan to help you reach your goals. - Set Goals and Adjust: We’ll set clear goals and adjust our approach as needed based on your progress and feedback. This ensures our sessions are focused and effective for your success.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Rice University, which provides a strong foundation in math. Additionally, I am an accomplished English I teacher with experience tutoring students in high school and college. This combination of formal education and practical teaching experience equips me well to support students in various subjects.
I don't have a standard pricing system at the moment as I am just starting out. To jumpstart my tutoring career and build a strong reputation, I prefer to remain flexible with my rates. I’m happy to discuss pricing on an individual basis to ensure it aligns with your needs and budget.
From a young age, I felt a deep calling to teach. In kindergarten, my peers and teacher gave me the nickname "Little Teacher" because of my natural inclination and enthusiasm for helping others. This passion for teaching remained strong throughout my education, and during my time at Rice University, I was absolutely certain that teaching was my true vocation.
I have worked with a diverse range of students. In high school, I tutored both older and same-aged peers. During college, I also tutored high school students. Currently, I teach 9th graders, which allows me to continue working with students in a similar age group.
One recent event I’m particularly fond of is when one of my special education students, who had never passed a STAAR exam before, succeeded in passing both of his exams this year. After a year of hard work and dedication, I had the privilege of sharing the news with him. The moment he began to cry tears of joy was incredibly rewarding and a testament to his perseverance and growth.
When hiring a tutor, choose someone with expertise in the subject and a track record of success. It’s important they understand your needs and learning style, communicate well, and are genuinely invested in your progress.
Before talking to teachers about their needs, students should consider: - What specific subjects or topics do I need help with? - What are my short-term and long-term academic goals? - What learning methods work best for me? - Do I have any current challenges or areas where I’m struggling? - What is my preferred schedule for tutoring sessions? Reflecting on these questions can help students clearly communicate their needs and expectations.
