About
My service stands out because I believe in the potential of every student! Helping students see how math is necessary and applied in so many aspects of life is fun. I enjoy helping students figure out what their learning styles are, while tailoring tutoring to these needs. I rejoice with students in the milestones of learning as they thrive, flourish, soar and blast off not only in math but in life!
I enjoy working with children and youth and helping them based on their unique learning styles, along with developing critical thinking skills in them that are essential to understanding the foundations of math. I enjoy seeing children and youth have the “ah-ha” moments when they get a concept and begin to have fun with math! I like to make learning fun, so I use a variety of instructional methods such as toys, games and whatever it takes to help a student understand and retain information.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Upon first meeting student, I try to do a needs analysis/assessment by inquiring from the parent, based on what they know and from the teacher, do some example work to see how the student processes information and work on problems. In addition, I inquire from the student directly in what they need and tailor the tutoring accordingly, based on the student’s learning style(s) and in using the 5 E’s instructional method: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, so I have done a lot of math throughout my years!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Available upon request, depends on the service, and takes into account preparation.
How did you get started teaching?
Ever since I was a child, I used to play “teacher” at home with my siblings. I even taught them how to read! I started as a student in college where I would tutor students. As a professional engineer I would tutor through community service or at my church(es) where I taught Sunday School lessons. I also taught and tutored children while overseas on missions in Guyana, Kenya and Australia.
What types of students have you worked with?
Elementary, middle and high school. I have also taught adults (while working as an engineer).
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Making up a song with my girls while walking with them as they roller-skated to help them remember some of the major types of quadrilaterals and it worked!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask about their credentials, what experience they have had in teaching in the subject area and the kinds of instructional methods they use that have proven to be successful when teaching/tutoring.
