About

My service stands out because I believe in the potential of every student! Helping students see how math is necessary and applied in so many aspects of life is fun. I enjoy helping students figure out what their learning styles are, while tailoring tutoring to these needs. I rejoice with students in the milestones of learning as they thrive, flourish, soar and blast off not only in math but in life!

I enjoy working with children and youth and helping them based on their unique learning styles, along with developing critical thinking skills in them that are essential to understanding the foundations of math. I enjoy seeing children and youth have the “ah-ha” moments when they get a concept and begin to have fun with math! I like to make learning fun, so I use a variety of instructional methods such as toys, games and whatever it takes to help a student understand and retain information.

My daughter has learned so much over a good amount of time. We are so appreciate of the knowledge gained along with the care given. We’re going to continue sessions with Ms. Chermaine. I would recommend her to anyone.

Chermaine is very knowledgeable and is an experienced teacher. That is to say, when I have not initially understood a concept, she identifies the reason why and clarifies. I am studying college level mathematics and with her tutoring I am THE distinguished student in my class as I not only know the answers but fully grasp the mathematical concepts. She will show you how the mathematical cogwheels turn and why they yield the answers they do. Excellent teacher. Great investment!!!

Charmaine is a very good math tutor. My daughter is very comfortable with her and is seeing small results in the short time that we have used her. I would definitely recommend her to anyone searching for a math tutor.

Today was the first tutoring session and Charmaine was great. I love how she took the time to get to the root of the issues my son is having.. Charmaine is actually helping my son with reading and math and I have a feeling he will have great success with her help.. I will write another review after a month or so to update you all on his progress

She is extremely kind and patient. She uses visual aids, she goes through a few examples to ensure I understand and gives praise. I would definitely recommend her for any age, level and any purpose.

Just started working with her and have had an amazing experience. My request was all but ordinary. My husband suffered a severe brain injury and used to be a “math guy” before the life changing event. Chermaine jumped in and has already made a difference.

    Frequently asked questions

Upon first meeting student, I try to do a needs analysis/assessment by inquiring from the parent, based on what they know and from the teacher, do some example work to see how the student processes information and work on problems. In addition, I inquire from the student directly in what they need and tailor the tutoring accordingly, based on the student’s learning style(s) and in using the 5 E’s instructional method: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate.

I have Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, so I have done a lot of math throughout my years!

Available upon request, depends on the service,  and takes into account preparation.

Ever since I was a child, I used to play “teacher” at home with my siblings. I even taught them how to read! I started as a student in college where I would tutor students. As a professional engineer I would tutor through community service or at my church(es) where I taught Sunday School lessons. I also taught and tutored children while overseas on missions in Guyana, Kenya and Australia.

Elementary, middle and high school. I have also taught adults (while working as an engineer).

Making up a song with my girls while walking with them as they roller-skated to help them remember some of the major types of quadrilaterals and it worked!

Ask about their credentials, what experience they have had in teaching in the subject area and the kinds of instructional methods they use that have proven to be successful when teaching/tutoring.
