About

My name is Roscoe Harris III and I have always been passionate about helping others in whatever ways I can. I am a rising senior at Stanford University studying Product Design. My focus is on sustainable design as I think it is the best way I can use my skills and talents to positively impact humanity and the world in general.

My mom says that I've helped my classmates since kindergarten. At church, I tutored several high school students because I love guiding others through challenges while learning. I think my service stands out because of the Montessori style education I received in elementary school. I was in a classroom with 4-6 graders and was given the freedom to explore deeply whichever subject interested me. I had the chance as a 4th grader to learn 6th-grade math and the chance as a 6th grader to tutor 4th graders in math. I am patient and I am able to try multiple different strategies (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, etc.) with success.

I am tutoring to support myself during this pandemic. But more importantly, it is something I love to do. Please see my LinkedIn page (www.linkedin.com/in/roscoe-harris-iii) for my professional experiences. I hope you'll give me a chance to help you.

Ever since I was a child teaching came naturally to me. I get joy out of seeing the lightbulb go off in a student's mind when they work with me to answer a problem. I am proud when I can see the growth a student makes, and I want to continue doing that for as long as I can.

    Frequently asked questions

I would like to maybe speak with the student on Zoom, Skype, or whichever platform works for the student. I will them work to figure out a schedule for us to meet on a more regular basis to complete the student's goals.

I worked at Sequoia High School in Redwood City as a teaching assistant in both a Geometry and Biology class. The Biology class was a remedial class with students who were less optimistic and less confident about their abilities and I learned to work through that challenge. The students in the geometry class were in an accelerated math program and I enjoyed that challenge all the same. I am able to work with students who don't believe they can succeed in math and students who want to get ahead of their peers.

When I was in high school, I took both an SAT and ACT Prep course and received specialized training from my mentors. This helped me to achieve a 99th percentile score on both tests. I am eager to share my knowledge with you all.

I intend to offer both an hour-long standard session and a two-hour-long extended session.

For general math tutoring the rates are:

    - $30 (standard)

    - $50 (extended)

For SAT/ACT Test Prep tutoring the rates are:

    - $45 (standard)

    - $80 (extended)

I got started teaching in primary school because I was gifted and felt good about helping my peers. I then began to tutor students at my church regularly in high school and this helped me to refine my teaching skills.

I have experience working with students in grades K-12, but most of my professional experience has been working with students in high school (9-12). I love helping any and every person I possibly can so I'm open to tutoring anyone.

I would advise the student to stay motivated and be as expressive as you can when detailing what you want to accomplish to the tutor. When doing math problems it is important to remember to write down every step you make along the way. This is important if you must backtrack later after making a mistake. Writing down the steps ensures you can make adjustments quickly and effectively.

Think about what you're goals are for the sessions. My goal in high school was to get into the school of my dreams and I succeeded. Thinking of what your goals are will help me help you achieve them.
