About
Everytime someone complains about helping their child with math homework I frown. I get excited when my children ask me for help with math homework. Math has always been my favorite. Helping others learn is in my DNA. Put the two together and my spirit soars.
I love the "aha" moments.

Shela was an amazing tutor for my son. He was really struggling with some concepts in his college math class. Shela took time each day before their time together to gather examples and found ways to explain things to him in a way that he understood and made it possible to pass the class with a great grade! The best part was watching his confidence boost while he tackled the lessons and the final because of Shelas great tips. She was very patient, fun, and always available for us with questions. I HIGHLY recommend her!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work with the student and/or parent to set up an individualized plan for each student. This plan is flexible and can be changed as needed along the way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
See "How did you get started teaching?". I went to school for the subjects that I teach rather than for teaching. The teaching comes naturally. I've taught in ISD and community college (currently).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do not. My prices are determined based on what level of the subject(s) and the goals.
How did you get started teaching?
I've had the ability to explain things in math since at least middle school. In high school, I was in Mu Alpha Theta. When our group decided to tutor, I had 3 very different students. Out in the world of work that hadn't followed a path into education, I found myself in a trainer position over and over. During a college class where I was a lab assistant, I noticed that I asked the students what they were thinking to decide which path to put them on. When my boys came along I grabbed every opportunity to teach them a little more. I took on coaching basketball and soccer. Eventually, I did start working in school and public libraries. Also, I joined an online tutoring company teaching students math and reading. Educating is a big part of my background. Did I mention my mother was a teacher? When I decided to start my business, I looked at what I'd been doing and what my current interests were. Training. Teaching. Tutoring
