Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student starts with getting to know their goals, comfort level, and any specific challenges they’re facing. I like to review recent assignments or test results to see where support is most needed. From there, I create a personalized plan that focuses on building understanding step-by-step, checking for progress along the way, and celebrating growth to build confidence.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Oklahoma State University with both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree. I am a certified teacher with experience teaching Reading, Writing, and Social Studies, and I hold TIA Recognized and Exemplary designations for outstanding student growth and performance.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have been tutoring for over seven years, beginning in college and continuing throughout my teaching career. My background in education and long-term tutoring experience allow me to support students of all levels with personalized strategies that build confidence, skills, and lasting academic success.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, my pricing is based on the length and type of session. Standard one-on-one tutoring sessions are $40 per hour, which includes personalized lesson planning, practice materials, and progress feedback. For extended or specialized sessions (such as test prep or essay support), rates may vary slightly depending on student needs.
How did you get started teaching?
I actually started out on a completely different path — I was accepted into over ten veterinary schools before realizing my true passion was teaching. While tutoring in college, I discovered how much I loved helping students learn and grow in confidence. That experience changed everything for me and led me to become a teacher. Now, I get to inspire students every day and help them reach their full potential
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked with a wide range of students—from elementary through college level. As a 5th-grade teacher, I support students with diverse learning styles and academic needs, including gifted learners, struggling readers and writers, and students receiving resource support. I’ve also tutored middle school, high school, and college students in various subjects, helping each one build confidence and find strategies that work best for them.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I’m most proud of was seeing my students’ incredible growth on last year’s STAAR exam—75% of my class met or exceeded grade-level expectations. Watching their progress throughout the year and celebrating their hard work paid off was such a rewarding experience. It reminded me how powerful consistency, encouragement, and personalized teaching can be.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I’d tell students to look for a teacher who not only knows the material but also makes learning feel comfortable and engaging. The best teachers listen, adapt to your learning style, and help you build confidence—not just grades. Find someone who will meet you where you are and help you believe you can grow from there.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What specific areas do I struggle with or want to improve in?
• How do I learn best—by seeing, hearing, or doing?
• What kind of support or teaching style helps me stay motivated?
• What goals do I want to reach by working with this teacher?
