Mathable Tutoring
About
I became a teacher of mathematics over 30 years ago, and recently retired. The thing I always loved most about teaching math, and still do, is working with students one-on-one. To watch the transfomation of a student having difficutly, to understanding a math concept, is amazingly rewarding to me! It is the main reason I went into teaching in the first place!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first find out where the student is in the course. Then what they are covering currently.
I find out exactly what concept or concepts he or she is having difficulty with of what they are convering or have covered thus far.
I tell them a little about myself, and ask them to do the same with me.
I set an appointment to meet for a 30 minute strategy planning and also see if the student is serious about getting help with learning the math.
Then we go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Post Bac. Certification in Mathematics, from Texas Tech University after receiving my BA at Texas Tech University in 1988. I have also written several Study guides for Texas Tech Long Distance Education in two math courses. I have classroom experience with 7th grade math all the way up to AP Calculus in the public school system, for thirty years. I have tutored on and off for many years. in 1998 - 1999 I had my own tutor
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charged $40 per hour in 1998. Now, I am charging $55 per hour based on the area I live in.
How did you get started teaching?
I had gotten my degree in Advertising, did not like it, and was in an employment agency's office, when a stroke of inspiration hit me all at once looking over my resume, that I had always taken math in college, loved it, and remembered the professors teaching it, and remembering how much I wanted to also. From that point in time on, I was on my way to get what I needed to become a certified teacher in Texas.
What types of students have you worked with?
Student who are motivated enough to want to learn the math, or whos parents are.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Having dozens of students write me appreciation letters right when I retired!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you do not wait until the last minute to get a tutor in math. Students cannot learn math overnight. First sign of slight trouble in class, get the tutor immediately
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Know exactly what the names are of what they are having difficutlies with, or at least can demonstrate what kind of examples.
