Putting students firstvwhen the school system often does not. Scaffolded learning makes the education process a success. When the educator meets the student where that student is in the educational process and provides the the framework, both teacher and student work together toward internalizing and owning the concepts.
I have been a public school teacher for 17 years and taught five years in the private setting. Full elementary and secondary certification. Secondary certification is in Biology, Psychology and Health. Certified in Generic Special Education for k-12. Specialize in teaching resource Life Science, Earth Science, American History/World History and Hovernment with highly qualified status.

Texas Teacher Certification Two Year Certification Prigram at Rice University.
Taught in the Rice University Summer High School Program. Created and designed courses in Entomology and Psychology.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Establish a relationship of trust. Listen to the needs of the student and parents. Maintain a flexible open learning environment while adhering to structure and timeliness. Allow the student to question and discuss as they form their concepts. Help students clear up misconceptions and allow the student to gain confidence in doing tasks for the self.

Starting where the student is intellectually and scaffolding for understanding. Socratic teaching method is used as student and teacher interact. Use of modeling and then allowing the student to gain confidence in doing the task on their own.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for an instructor that the student can trust. A teacher that collaborated with that student and one that motivates a student setting high expectations.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should think about using the skills and knowledge that they have as they assimilate and accommodate to create their own cognitive structures with guidance from the teacher. Past experiences and motivations provide the framework to create form in education!
