About
I am a classroom teacher who has a passion for student success! Students often feel like they cannot ask questions in the classroom directly. The teacher might also have so many students that you do not receive the one-on-one help that you really need! I can help students with Reading, Writing, SAT Prep, TSIA Prep, college essays and applications, resume writing, and even grammar and mechanics. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English and a 7-12th grade Teaching Certificate. I have been awarded "Champion Teacher"
I enjoy helping students in the areas where they struggle. Often times, students give up when they cannot figure something out. I like to be the person who pushes them to not give up and to find a way to understand.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know my students first, find out a list of what it is that they struggle with, run a diagnostic, and then create lessons based on their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 3 years of high school classroom experience. I also have a Bachelor's Degree and a teacher certification.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I start with $25 per hour. If students need materials then I may charge an extra $5. If they have the material they are needing help with, the $25 will remain the same.
How did you get started teaching?
I student taught to gain some experience and then directly got my first teaching job. I was a tutor throughout college as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students from low-income families, juveniles, students with special needs, and students who require accomodations.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was out taking care of my own family. When I came back, all of my students told me things like "Mrs. Nichols, we really miss you when you're gone," "Mrs. Nichols, you are so good at helping us," and "Mrs. Nichols, we need you." Any comments like this that come from students you work with is so rewarding.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The most important part about hiring a teacher of English, is to find someone who has a passion for it. You also want the teacher to be patient. If you are a reaching out for help, it is for a reason. It is because you are struggling in some area. That teacher needs to figure out the weakness and know how to strengthen it.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Some questions to think through would be:
1. Do I understand passages?
2. Do I know to use complete sentences?
3. Is it harder for me to know what the question is asking or find the answer?
