About
My students get compassionate and personalized service. My style of one on one tutoring is extremely productive. I start with where my students are and bring them to where they need to be. I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring math in primary and secondary school levels. I also tutor some post secondary subjects. My degree is in Applied Math. I am willing and able to come to you.
The best thing about tutoring math is watching my students progress. I have loved math since I was in grade school and truly enjoy teaching it. Passing on this knowledge and good study habits is a great joy.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know a little about my students. We usually chat about school, hobbies and goals. When we get started on the lesson, I give a real world example or two of the concept. I do this so that my students can picture the problem in a concrete way. Although there are many types of math problems, each solution can be found using a methodical and simple way. This allows the student to be able to solve consistently and correctly.

I have been professionally teaching and/or tutoring math for over 20 years.

How did you get started teaching?
As a child, I played school with my friends.
During my years in middle school, high school and college, I helped my friends with math homework or with studying for tests. I also worked as a math tutor in college.
After college I worked in the corporate sector as a systems engineer, which also involved teaching my clients about the software products that I serviced.
I left the corporate world when I started my family. After my last child was born I began teaching math at the high school level in HISD. For the last 10 years I have been working as a substitute teacher and a math tutor.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from age 6 and up. Most ot my students have been in middle and high school. With my work as a teacher and substitute teacher I have worked with boys and girls from practily every background you can think of. I have also had the pleasure of teaching a wide variety of subjects in my work a a substitute teacher.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently saw one of my former students who was about to graduate. I worked with him in Algebra and Geometry. I asked him why he hadn't called me lately. He told me that I did such a good job the last two years he didn't need me for his senior year. I am very proud of him. This is why I teach.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher with a genuine interest in helping you. He or she must be able to communicate in a manner that you understand. Usually this means being able to explain concepts in a variety of ways. Your teacher shows that they really care about you and your success.
