About this tutor

Hello - my name is Rashidah Ali.  I am in the process of completing my teaching certification in the state of Texas up to 8th grade for Mathematics.  I have passed the Texas Educator Certification Examination program Math 4-8 as well as the Pedagogy & Professional Exam EC - 12. (All certifications  available upon request)

I have a bachelors degree in Marketing from the University of Houston and was a tutor at the statistics lab as well as a private tutor during my tenor there. I have worked on the commodities desk for about ten years.  Recently, I decided to pursue teaching again as I wanted to get back to what I felt my natural tendency was and what made me feel happy and fulfilled.

Write this Rashidah tutored me in both my statistics class as well as my operations management class. She was thorough and explained all the concepts throughly to me. When I saw that she wanted to go into teaching/tutoring math - I knew I wanted to endorse her as she always had a knack for explaining things. That was explained in a real life scenario . Thank you Rashidah

An excellent tutor! Rashida was also a very pleasant person to work with. She was very helpful at helping me get through a fairly tricky question step by step. We went through problem and she coded it himself in order to compare work. It was really useful and I would recommend her help for those who need it.

Unlike my other tutors, she helped me work on my weaknesses and put the time in to actually teach me rather then give busy work. She pushed me to achieve higher and at the end helped me succeed in bettering my grades in a way I couldn’t have done on my own. She is hands down one of the most determined people I have ever worked with and her strong will and positive attitude gave me an enriching and valuable experience that I will carry through my long student career.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My process would consist of first assessing the students.  I would want to know their weaknesses and strengths and would gauge it by administering worksheets based on different skills.  I would then start with their strengths to build their comfort and confidence level.  I would start by showing "tip and tricks" for the areas that they are weak in and do different problems with it.  I would also want to show the application to real life situations as I feel a lot of math students always say "when am I going to use this in real life?"

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am 2 classes short of being a ceritifed elementary/middle school teacher and will be done by August 2020.

I have passed both of these Texas Educator and Cerification Examination Programs:

I also tutored during my college years at the University of Houston at the Bauer Statistics Lab.

I have worked within Commodities Trading in Natural Gas for 10 years and have been working with numbers during my tenor.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

No I do not.  I am flexible and will work with clients individually.

How did you get started teaching?

I got started in pursuing my teaching degree in 2019, when I realized it was my calling. I wanted a way to give back to the community while also making a career out of it.  The love for math comes when a teacher has patience and realizes the fundamentals of math has to be strong.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with elementary, middle school, and high school students all the way up to college.
