About
Having taught middle school math for 11 years, I love to make math relevant, fun, and engaging to anyone I'm teaching. To help students achieve their goals, I make sure they understand the math concepts fluently.
I love to help my students understand math using games such as human tic-tac-toe, trashcan basketball, Kahoot, and other games.
I am certified in 4th - 8th grade math.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know what math concepts the student is struggling with. I also like to find out what kind of learner the student is (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.).
Once I know these things, I focus on those concepts, but also make sure they continue to master the concepts they're not struggling with. I do this with online programs such as Khan Academy, as well as hands-on lessons and worksheets for reinforcement.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a certified math teacher and taught middle school math for 11 years.
How did you get started teaching?
I worked for Upward Bound at Galveston College, and I loved helping students prepare for higher education. I would talk to them about college life and how fun it can be, but also the responsibility of college life. From there, I decided I wanted to become a teacher and got certified.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with 5th - 8th grade students. These students were various types of learners, some had learning disabilities and some were special education students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I would always create a game as a test review for my students. It didn't matter what game it was, they were always excited to play to review for their test. They were always competitive, so Kahoot was one of their favorite games because it shows who the lead scorer was. We had lots of fun.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher cares about you, your learning style, and what you want to get from their teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I believe any questions students have are important because they are important to them.
