About

6 years in the classroom has given me experience to know exactly what skills are necessary and required for each child. I am able to vertically align to know the foundations required from previous years, and where your child's learning needs to grow. I am passionate about finding projects and real-world examples to make learning fun!

The absolute best part about my job, is turning your child into a life-long learner. I want them to look around themselves in the world and create a learning opportunity wherever they are. Find things to play with or pull apart to learn how it works. Discover new authors by browsing the aisles of a [book]store. Meet inspiration walking around your neighborhood. "Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." - Carl Bard

Frequently asked questions

I like to spend the first session giving a placement assessment. This lets me see exactly what skills children have already aquired, as well as letting me know what gaps needed to be closed. It gives me a point to start off our sessions with so that I can continue to monitor their progress. From there, we will create a goal or objective for each session, as well as monthly goals to keep our work together aligned.

I have spent the past 6 years in the classroom primarily teaching 2nd and 3rd grade students. I am comfortable teaching both in person and virtually, individually and within small groups. I spent some time tutoring online as well and working with both elementary reading and math.

I am a certified K-6 teacher and have spent 6 years in the classroom. My base rate is $32/hour for one subject/individual. Two subjects (both reading and math) begins at $28/hour with a minimum of two-hours a week. Sibling rate is $25/hour with a minimum of four-hours a week.

My very first year teaching was in a Pre-K ESE classroom. I am Special Education certified as well as Elementary for Kindergarten - 6th grade. My background is in Deaf Education and I am fluent in American Sign Language. The majority of my teaching career has been spent in 2nd/3rd grade.

I have worked with general students, students with disabilities (autism, ADHD, dyslexia) and gifted students as well. I am passionate about creating a plan for YOUR child and letting them take the lead with their education. If it isn't fun, they aren't willing to learn.

A recent project we have been working on is a novel study of Charlotte's Web. I like to pick novels that have been turned into a movie to build the depth of learning. One of the projects we worked on was creating a menu that is inspired by the book. There was also an activity where we chose gifts for various characters of the book and described what made it a good gift. Once we are finished reading the book together, we will watch the movie and compare the characters, setting, and plot. I also always ask which one they preferred, and why. It is these types of projects that really bring literature to life and creates life-long learners!

Ask questions! If you are looking for a reading teacher, find someone who always has a book with them. Ask who their favorite author is, and why. A master in any subject is always eager to talk about it!

The first step would be to determine how you learn best. This doesn't need to be a formal survey or assessment (although those do exist). Think about some of your favorite classes or lessons and determine what it was that you were doing. Did you get to listen to an interview or a song? Did you create a colorful poster? Was it a project that you were in charge of planning? Identify your learning modality and find a teacher that is willing to match it.
