K-6th Advanced And Remedial Math Tutoring
About
I am K-6th teacher with 16 years teaching and more than that tutoring. I struggled with math as a child so I understand those who do as well. I am a fun (and often very funny) teacher that connects well with students taking the fear out of math and making it obtainable. I have been around a while so I have a lot of methods under my belt many of which I created myself. I love to sing and have taught over 800 students their multiplication tables directly or indirectly through my methods. I have certifications in ESL, Sped and Regular education. Most of my 16 year careeer I have taught all forms of Special Education and for 7 years regular education. Recently, though, I have began teaching Gifted and Talented students teaching regular to advanced levels of math up to 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels.
I like to see the fear disappear from my students' eyes and the hope come in. I love it when my students develop confidence and the joy of learning starts in them. I enjoy encouraging and guiding my students to help them reach their potential.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask about their math history ( in advance preferably), their weakness, strengths, and what they want to work on first. I begin with that topic. I may work on various topics within an hour to switch it up.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a math teacher in North Texas. I currently teach math to Gifted and Talented Students in 3rd-5th (teaching on level and advanced math) but I have taught in a ESL regular education classroom as well as multiple settings in special education. I know lots of various methods/strategies and have come up with many of my own. I have certifications in regular elementary education k-6th, ESL supplementary, Special Education EC-12th, and 30 plus hour in Gifted and Talented.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20/45 minutes or $15/30 minutes. I recommend minimum of 30 minutes and up to but not exceeding 45 for tutoring. After tutoring I typically talk to the parent/guardian over strategies and progress and things to work on in between sessions. Working on math is hard mental work especially if it has in the past caused stress. I could charge a lot more because I know my abilities and experience but real math help requires time. I am a mom as well and know for many getting help for a child is a real sacrifice for the whole family. I really do care about my students, and I want them to get the help they need.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after I was recruited to teach math after college at Texas A&M University- College Station. Gig'em Aggies!!! The administrator knew in my past that I struggled with math but had mastered it. If it had not been for my educator mother and grandmother I would not have made it. She knew I would be patient and compassionate because of my experience asvery creative; she was right. My husband and I began our family and my strategies and methods increased to my make my 3 children's experience easier than mine. This translated to my classroom.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with English as a Second Language students, students with learning disabilities including dyscalculia and dyslexia, students on the autism spectrum, students with intellectual disabilities, and students that are of average intelligence as well ast those that are gifted and talented. I have worked and/or lived in Costa Rica, Columbia, the Philippines and China.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I worked with a student really struggling with subtraction and division. Every week she is making significant strides. Seeing the relief on her face seeing she can learn is very satisfying.
I currently am teaching an up and coming 4th grader long division as he was dreading facing it next year. He is shocked at how fast he got it.
I am working with a student on Algebra I as she is nervous about starting it next year. I can see her confidence growing the more she progresses.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You need to see your child's need. Do they:
1. Need remediation (help underneath their actual grade level)
2. Need to help to stay on level ( they aren't behind in understanding concepts yet.)
3. Need to be challenged. ( They are on or above level but want more.
4. Have a mixture of math topics that they are on level but some are above or below.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
"What topic do you want/need to work on?
The first topics to master is addition(by 2nd) , subtraction (by 3rd) , multiplication (3rd/4th) and division (3rd/4th). Do you have problems in any of these or want to get ahead on them?
Understanding numbers (and place value, and rounding/estimating) , money, time, geometry, algebraic understanding, graphs, input/output tables, financial literacy, and word problems application are important after this.
The next important topic is fractions (3rd-5th), percents (6th on), and ratios (6th on).
