High School Teacher
One description of my career is that of teacher-mentor. I have spent most of my career teaching students, teachers and parents. My greatest pleasure is mentoring and coaching others in developing the coping, academic and life skills needed to fulfill their goals. My individual philosophy is that learning is a journey where the teacher is guide and the learner is the avid adventurer.
The following is a list of the courses that I have taught with the Fort Worth Independent School District:
Economics
Government
Junior-Senior Composition
AVID
ELA-Reading
My teaching background also included classes at the University of Texas at Arlington, where I have taught College Composition and Literature, and Drama.
Consulting and Training Experience
I have consulted with several Texas school districts in developing High School Reading and Writing curriculum to improve test scores on the state Texas Assessment of Academic Skills. I have also reviewed several English Language textbooks for Globe Fearon Publishers.
I was also a teacher-trainer for 15 years and I currently instruct paraprofessionals in English and Reading pedagogy for Fort Worth ISD to prepare them to receive a B.A. in Elementary and Secondary Education as well as a teaching license for the state of Texas.
Professional Credentials
I obtained an undergraduate degree in Humanities and Secondary Education in 1978. I have several certifications in English, Reading, Economics, Government, and English as a Second Language. I completed a Master's in Curriculum Development and Technology in 2003 via an online classroom environment.
As you can see, I value learning and I truly believe that working together as partners in this educational journey, we can all experience success!
