Science And Math With Kayla
About
I graduated from Texas A&M Univeristy - Corpus Christi in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in science focused on organismal biology. During my time in college, I worked as a student mentor for a variety of subjects, primarily focusing on science and math. I frequently led study groups with my class mates and offered one-on-one tutoring to class mates. My favorite subjects to study and tutor in are biology, anatomy, immunology, and newtonian physics. I can also assist with lower level chemisty, english, and history.
I currently work full time in the field of veterinary medicine educating pet owners and training new team members.
One of my favorite feelings is seeing that a student has just unlocked a problem in their mind.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After introducing myself, I will ask the student several questions to determine the level of assistance that they need in a subject. I have found that starting with the student's current homework assignments can help both of us stay on track with current curriculum. This also gives me an accurate understanding of the level the student needs to achieve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in science with a focus on organismal biology. I took elective courses in biomedical science courses and worked as a student academic mentor during college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with undergraduate college students and high school students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about the last objective or class subject their teacher has talked about where they did not feel confident. This can help them to better explain what it is they are struggling with to maximize their time spent with the tutor.
Students should also think about whether or not they feel good and confident about the material during regular class lessons but then procrastinate on the homework assignments - this can be a sign of subject anxiety that means they actually just need more guided practice on the subject.
