About

I have been an educator for 34 years. I began teaching in 1987 and have taught 6th-8th grade math including Algebra 1 and Geometry for high school credit. I have been teaching at the same school for the past 30 years where I have been awarded teacher of the year, have been the head of the math department and have also been the technology liaison for teachers in all subjects. I just retired in December 2020 and I'm ready to continue helping students by tutoring.

I absolutely LOVE teaching, helping and influencing student's academic success. I hope to instill in them a love for learning and of course a love for math.

I have always been a lover of technology. During this past pandemic my district changed to online instruction and I loved it. I know it was quite an adjustment for some students while others flourished. But it does afford a one-on-one tutoring/teaching scenario via zoom, google meets and/or canvas conferences. We used all 3 in our district.

I use a digital whiteboard to show and teach students how to solve their math problems so they can 'watch me' work problems. I also use an interactive platform so that students can work the problems out while I watch. It's as close to face to face teaching as possible.

I look forward to working online with my students!!!

I enjoy teaching very much. I would describe it as my 'super power'! (lol) The most rewarding part of teaching is seeing those students that are struggling become successful because I have spent the time with them that they needed to gain that success. Comments such as 'now I get it' or even a simple 'thank you' touches my heart and always has.

What I also have enjoyed about my work is the fact that I have made a difference in student's lives not only academically. I have lived in the same town for 30 years and have followed MANY of my students through their school years and now as adults. It is the most amazing thing to see your former students become successful adults and to have remained friends with them through the years.

Frequently asked questions

My process for working with new students is to assess their needs and their level of understanding through  initial sessions. There are several assessments that I can go through with them to analyze their thought processes and where they may have gaps.

Every student is different and has different needs and different paces. Some students may need more sessions to benefit them while others may just need a quick session to answer some of their questions. It varies.

After each session I would report back to the parent what their child may need or how the overall session went.

Parents can contact me via email also:  [email protected]

My experince in the math teaching field for the past 34 years of course relates to my experience instructing students. I feel like I have been very successful in helping students academically. I have always been available to my students for tutoing after hours at school and online as well.

I have also tutored students ranging from 6th grade to college algebra over the years.

I have always heard from my students that I made math more 'understandable' for them. I am very patient with my students and most importantly never give up!

My fee is currently the first 30 minute session is FREE and then it's $30 per hour.  ($15 for half hour)

I went to college to be a teacher 34 years ago and have loved it ever since! I have a BS in education from k-8th grade and my Seconday Math certification as well for 6-12th grades.

I have experience teaching 6th math-Algebra and Geometry for the past 34 years.

I have worked with students at all levels in the grades mentioned above. From math improvement courses to advanced algebra and geometry courses.

My retirement! After 34 years of dedication to teaching I have retired. I am now enjoying my free time, but I am ready to start my next chapter which will be to tutor students. (online for now)

My advice for finding a teacher/tutor to hire would be to find someone that has experience and is 'current' with what is happening in education today.

I would also advise that it is very important that you find someone that you understand. Meaning they "speak your language". They have to ability to break problems down into easier steps to help you solve them.  Basically you really understand their teaching.

Students and/or their parents should think through what their needs actually are before speaking to a tutor. However, if they are not sure, a conversation with the teacher or tutor may shed some light on what is necessary.

For example, are they just needing help with what is already being taught during the school day? Needing help with their homework? Needing to improve their grades? Or do they have gaps in their learning and are completely lost and needing to catch up to their grade level? There are a variety of needs each student may have that will determine the type of tutoring necessary.
