I love teaching. I love answering questions and making it safe for kids to ask the questions that they've been afraid to ask their classroom teachers. I love being a supportive guide and coach for kids and adults, and turning obstacles into opportunities for growth!

Vivian is amazing at what she does- from listening, observing, and assessing what my child needs to discussing and problem solving with me! She has been a wonderful resource as we are figuring out how to help my 3rd grader improve on but mostly find a liking of math! Most importantly, Vivian has been able to boost my childs confidence and help her through the anxieties of learning hard things. Another plus is that my kid adores her! She actually enjoys tutoring sessions and looks forward to learning new fun and quirky ways to do math! In short, Vivian made 3rd grade math fun and helped us learn the strategies to keep learning instead of getting stuck. Cant recommend her enough!

Vivian is fantastic! She is communicative, kind and flexible. My daughter took an instant liking to her. She is great with her in math and helps her feel more confident in her abilities.
    I would highly recommend Vivian!

    Frequently asked questions

With younger students, I like to build rapport with new students through modular origami and a brief assessment of interests and skills.  I focus on a student's strengths, and look for ways to support students to understand their strengths and to be a trustworthy adult who can answer questions and support without judgement.

With older students, I do my best to help my students articulate their questions, so that they can guide our time together.  It is important that they feel comfortable asking questions about what has been a struggle and identifying what is confusing.

I have been a math tutor since high school, and have over 25 years of experience as a private tutor.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University in Art History, and have had nine years of classroom experience in public and private schools.  I have completed some coursework toward a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology with a focus on Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut at Storrs campus.

    My current rate is $85/hr.

I offer prorated sessions.  Some students prefer 30 minute sessions and some have the attention span for longer sesssions.  Each student is different and I do my best to accommodate their needs.
