I love teaching. I love answering questions and making it safe for kids to ask the questions that they've been afraid to ask their classroom teachers. I love being a supportive guide and coach for kids and adults, and turning obstacles into opportunities for growth!

Vivian has been tutoring my 2E child (who does accelerated math) for almost 2 years now. She is so patient with my rather easily frustrated kiddo and they work together so well. My daughter also has a blast with the origami projects!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Vivian and the incredible transformation shes brought to my daughters relationship with math. When we first started working with Vivian, my daughter absolutely hated math and would melt down every time homework came out.
Vivian has completely turned things around by making math fun and engaging. She brings creative games and activities, and my daughters favorite are the origami projects where they practice geometry concepts while folding shapes. As any parent of a chatty first-grader knows, keeping a 7-year-old focused is challenging, but Vivian has this amazing ability to keep my daughter on task while making learning enjoyable.
The results speak for themselves. My daughter no longer complains about math at school, and her confidence has soared! Her skills have improved dramatically, and her teacher has taken notice.
What I especially appreciate is how Vivian creates custom worksheets that perfectly complement what my daughter is learning in school and brings new math games weekly to keep sessions fresh and exciting. She keeps me informed with brief updates after each session, and shes always punctual and easy to communicate with.
If youre looking for a math tutor who can work miracles with young learners, look no further than Vivian. Shes building confidence and making what used to be our biggest homework struggle into something my daughter genuinely enjoys!

    Frequently asked questions

With younger students, I like to build rapport with new students through modular origami and a brief assessment of interests and skills.  I focus on a student's strengths, and look for ways to support students to understand their strengths and to be a trustworthy adult who can answer questions and support without judgement.

With older students, I do my best to help my students articulate their questions, so that they can guide our time together.  It is important that they feel comfortable asking questions about what has been a struggle and identifying what is confusing.

I have been a math tutor since high school, and have over 25 years of experience as a private tutor.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University in Art History, and have had nine years of classroom experience in public and private schools.  I have completed some coursework toward a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology with a focus on Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut at Storrs campus.

    My current rate is $90/hr.

I offer prorated sessions.  Some students prefer 30 minute sessions and some have the attention span for longer sesssions.  Each student is different and I do my best to accommodate their needs.
