I love teaching. I love answering questions and making it safe for kids to ask the questions that they've been afraid to ask their classroom teachers. I love being a supportive guide and coach for kids and adults, and turning obstacles into opportunities for growth!

Vivian is a great tutor and I totally recommend her. We are blessed to have found Vivian because I tried teaching my daughter math myself and almost every time we would get frustrated with each other. My daughter has dyslexia and dyscalculia and I was very impressed how with the patience, kindness, and compassion Vivian has shown my daughter. I have also seen my daughters confidence grow. My advice, dont wait if you feel your child is struggling in math, my daughter gets in-classroom math support but it doesnt compare to one-on-one tutoring.

Vivian was so incredibly patient with my 3 high energy boys and she would tailor the way she tutored to how they needed to learn. She was full of fun math games and positive energy. My oldest son’s MAP testing in math significantly improved after her tutoring him all year. I highly recommend!

Vivian has been tutoring my 2E child (who does accelerated math) for almost 2 years now. She is so patient with my rather easily frustrated kiddo and they work together so well. My daughter also has a blast with the origami projects!

My kid loved learning with Vivian and was always excited to return! He learned new skills but also gained confidence and inspiration! Vivian clearly loves working with kids and encourages them on their learning journey.

    Frequently asked questions

With younger students, I like to build rapport with new students through modular origami and a brief assessment of interests and skills.  I focus on a student's strengths, and look for ways to support students to understand their strengths and to be a trustworthy adult who can answer questions and support without judgement.

With older students, I do my best to help my students articulate their questions, so that they can guide our time together.  It is important that they feel comfortable asking questions about what has been a struggle and identifying what is confusing.

I have been a math tutor since high school, and have over 25 years of experience as a private tutor.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University in Art History, and have had twelve years of classroom experience in public and private schools.  I have completed some coursework toward a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology with a focus on Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut at Storrs campus.

    My current rate is $100/hr.

I offer prorated sessions.  Some students prefer 30 minute sessions and some have the attention span for longer sesssions.  Each student is different and I do my best to accommodate their needs.
