All of our tutors love teaching and that's why they have become tutors. We look for students that not only enjoy learning but also enjoy seeing others learn. Assisting a student in finding a method that works best for them or teaching something brand new to someone and watching their eyes light up is what why we work. We know you may feel like something is not your subject, but here at 1on1Tutoring we know "what we learn" is not as important as "how we learn."
We look forward to working with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we provide a free consult from one of our managers to determine the best tutor fit. Second, we have your tutor contact you and set up a meeting that fits both your schedules.
Once you have a tutor, the aim is to provide the tutor information ahead of time and set goals each week. We believe it is best when the parent and tutor communicate heavily if the student is younger, usually Elementary students. If the tutor and the student are closer in age we recommend them talking often to help at any time or provide information before tutoring sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our high school tutors are in the top 10%, and more often top 5% of their class. Many of them have scored 1550+ on the SAT and all of them have some kind of previous tutoring experience. Visit our website 1on1tutoring.org for all of their bios.
Our college tutors are students at top colleges throughout the nation and right here at UT Austin. They provide Skype tutoring for all subjects, in-home if close enough, and Skype college applications help to get students into the same top colleges they have.

How did you get started teaching?
I founded 1on1Tutoring as a junior in High School tutoring 15 different families. I realized I couldn't do it all and go to school. I hired some friends, built a website, and business took off. Today we have branches at 5 Austin High Schools and provide 50+ hours of tutoring a week and have worked with over 150 students. I am now a student in computer engineering at UT and run the company with a team of other top students. We still live by our values of by students, for students because we believe that the best, and most empathatic teachers are those who have learned the subject recently first-hand.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. We cater to students K-12 and have worked with students with different learning disabilties. We focus on providing options, if you are unhappy with your tutor we have a variety of other tutors available so that the student-tutor relationship can be the best possible.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of our students, increased her SAT score by 300 points within a month and got into her number one college thanks to her in-home high school SAT tutor.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that they actually know what your classroom environment is like. Teaching a subject is as much about the teacher as the subject because they can change the curricula and the way of teaching to such a high degree. That's why all of our tutors are hired directly from local high schools. That way we can provide tutors who have aced a class with the same teacher your student has.
Beyond that, we believe in seeing results and hiring someone who can be a mentor as well as a tutor. Half the battle of studying is having interest in the subject.
