I got Celia's name from a friend of mine who has used her in the past. My son is in 9th grade and like a typical boy, doesn't like to pay attention or listen to his teachers most of the time. So I've never had much success with tutors, but Celia is totally different. She has an energy that just makes you want to listen to her and learn from her. My son just loves her! Her knowledge of the academics and her personality have made her incredibly effective for us. From a parent standpoint, she is a godsent! Bryce brought his grade up in English and Social Studies, and it is all thanks to Celia's help. I tell all my friends about her and highly recommend her to anyone! Plain and simple, if you want results, you get Mrs. O.

Celia is a total gem! She is enthusiastic, professional, and really knows how to get my kids to learn the material. She has such a positive attitude! I reached out to her to help my 8th and 10th graders on their writing skills. Not only did she help them with their coursework, but more importantly she gave them a sense of confidence and security that I've never seen from them before when it comes to school. She also helped them learn new study skills and easy tips to keep things more ordaninzed day to day. She is affordable and accessible. FIVE STARS!! Celia Oosterhuis is AMAZING!!!

I have used Celia for both of my boys the last 2 years since we have moved here and they have grown so much and reached goals I couldn’t believe. She is so passionate about her job and she makes sure they understand and can master the area they are on before moving up. She has also began helping my high school daughter with her essays and papers for school. She gets the proof reading back in a timely matter and has so many great ideas! I would recommend her to any family member and friend!!!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I will either ask the student what they are needing from me as their tutor or do an initial assessment of student needs. This completely depends on the age, ability and need of the student.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I currently teach elementary school, but have classroom experience in middle school and high school too. I am willing to provide tutoring services for any grade level, age, or ability level.

How did you get started teaching?

I always loved working with kids and I studied Education at Texas State University. I have my B.S. in teaching. I am also pursuing my Master's in Educational Leadership.

I love teaching and would love to help you!

What types of students have you worked with?

I am a 4th grade teacher. I have classroom experience in middle school and high school too. I am willing to provide tutoring services for any grade level, age, or ability level.

I was also a nanny for 10 years and tutored many of those children.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

-I recently was working with a student at reading and he was reading a book he really loved with me. He had one of those "lightbulb moments" and paused and said, "Mrs. O., thanks for making learning fun. I really like reading now!"

-I also had a student recently tell me that working with me on writing their college essays was really helpful and enjoyable. Working together in tutoring empowered the student to start writing very well independently and this made me really proud of him.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

-Work with a tutor who knows their craft and makes learning fun! I do both! I have taught many years and love getting to know someone's best learning styles!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are my strengths? What do I need assistance with? How do I learn best (visuals, listening, writing, speaking, etc)? Where am I now and where do I want to go with my learning?
