About
I can teach at every level. I have worked with beginning foreign language learners who just want to communicate, junior high students learning the format of a basic essay, and college students writing papers in technical fields.
I enjoy the connection I form with students. My lessons are personalized, so I find out exactly what the student needs to know. I excel at making difficult ideas understandable, and explaining why some formal language may be different from what they experience every day.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At the first meeting, I assess the student's level and ask what he or she want to get from lessons. I discuss a plan. If the student is already in a program (school, for example) I request materials so I can support the program. If not, I recommend materials that I think will be useful. Finally, we set a schedule for future lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an MA in Educational Psychology. Additionally, for 3 years, I taught psychology and business classes at the college level.I spent 3 years in the JET program, where I taught ESL to junior high students in Japan. After returning to Texas, I spent seven years at an ESL school, teaching all levels of learners. All along, I have done one-on-one tutoring as well as classroom instruction.
