English Tutoring By Olivia
About
Hi there! My name is Olivia and I'm from Houston, TX, currently residing in Austin, TX.
For nearly 10 years, I have been helping students set and achieve their learning goals through a coaching intensive approach. As a student, you will tell me what you want to work on, and together we will create a personalized course to help you achieve your goals. I enjoy using a variety of materials such as videos, music, books, interactive activities, games, and more to make my lessons fun and engaging.
I began teaching ESL in Houston, TX in 2011. From 2013-2016, I worked in writing and tutoring labs at colleges, including Texas State University where I earned my B.A. in English. In 2016, I began working for tutoring companies as a K-12 reading and writing tutor. That same year, I earned by TEFL certification from The Language House in Prague and began teaching ESL online, as well as coaching other teachers in the field.
Thank you for checking out my profile. I hope to see you as my next student soon!
I enjoy helping students make connections between their learning subject and the world around them. One-to-one, personalized lessons mean we have the flexibility to explore topics from different perspectives, really bringing those topics to life rather than rushing through them and following as script.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session will be a meet-and-greet so we can get to know each other; during this session, we will set goals and discuss the best ways to meet them, including what methods and materials you prefer in your learning environment. Based on this 30-minute session, I will create personalized lessons just for you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in English, as well as my TEFL and TESOL certifications.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rates are based on the amount of time we spend together plus the amount of time I spend outside of our lesson time preparing materials:
Basic: $25/hour (includes a 60-minute session with periodic assessments)
Intermediate: $30/hour (includes a 60-minute session with self-study materials and periodic assessments)
All-Inclusive: $35/hour (includes a 60-minute session homework assignments, self-study materials, and periodic assessments)
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with beginning to advanced English language learners, K-12 reading and writing students, and college-level literature, writing, and speech students. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, there is always more to learn!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who takes a coaching approach rather than a lecture approach! Lectures expose you to a lot of information, but coaching allows you to interact with that information in a way that helps it stick!
You should also look for a teacher that encourages you to study additional materials independently.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
