Prior to tutoring, I had a very surface understanding of BC Calculus, but with Joseph’s help I really understood the content and scored a 5!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Diagnose → Design → Do & Review.
We start with a short, low-stress diagnostic to pinpoint strengths and gaps.
I build a personalized plan that pairs current homework with targeted skill reps.
Each session ends with quick reflection and next steps; I send brief notes to parents so everyone sees progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve tutored Algebra I & II, Geometry, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus, and SAT/PSAT for several years. My students have earned 4s/5s on AP exams and improved PSAT/SAT scores by 100+ points. I draw on my engineering math background and evidence-based study methods to make learning efficient and durable.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard is $150/hr (in-home or nearby location at the same rate). Online is discounted. Package pricing is available—including my current Founding Family offer while I’m restructuring. I’m flexible by subject and situation; let’s chat and pick what fits best.
How did you get started teaching?
I began by helping classmates and younger students with AP Calculus and SAT math. Seeing their confidence jump—and their scores follow—hooked me. I built thinkBloom to pair strong content teaching with mindset and study skills that last.
What types of students have you worked with?
Junior high and high school students—honors, AP, and those rebuilding foundations. Many juggle sports, band, or heavy course loads; I customize pacing and systems so they can thrive consistently, not just before tests.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent favorite: one of my SAT students lifted his score enough to meet the bar for his dream college—and he got in. We focused on targeted Algebra gaps, a simple error log, and timed-section routines. Watching his confidence turn into an acceptance email was a powerful reminder of why I teach.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a tutor who teaches both content and process: clear diagnostics, a simple plan you can follow between sessions, and brief parent updates. Ask how they’ll measure progress and when you should expect to see changes.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
- What feels hard right now (topics or test moments)?
- What’s the next milestone (unit test, PSAT/SAT date, AP exam)?
- How many hours can you commit weekly, and what location works best (in-home, nearby, online)?
- What has/hasn’t worked with tutoring in the past?
- How do you (and your parents) want progress updates delivered?
