About

I am a STEM mentor. My goal is to help students get into college and follow their dreams. I specialize in Exam Prep, Math, and English. In the past 7 years, I've tutored over 300+ students. I focus on teaching the course content not just homework help. The class rate depends on the course level. I can be reached at 214-354-8843.

Exam Prep ( SAT, PSAT, ACT, CBE, STAAR, ASVAB and TSI)

Math (elementary level math, Prealgebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, and College Algebra, College Trigonometry)

English (reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary for all grades.

I love helping students who are struggling in English to articulate their thoughts and feelings. I cry every time my students read the final draft of their perfect college essay.

Similarly, I enjoy helping students to really understand and enjoy math. Over time, students who don't like math learn the language of mathematics and no longer fear it. They become good at math and can see a future in a STEM field.

My son needed a little extra reinforcement in algebra to help on the SATs. He had about a months worth of lessons (late July through August), took the SATs on August 27 and scored 100 points higher than his last SAT is June. Had we started earlier this summer, Im certain he would have scored even higher! Mrs. Sandy is a great tutor and my son loved her lessons. Thank you, Mrs. Sandy!

Ms. Sandy tutors my 8th grader for Algebra 1 and I saw immediate improvement in her understanding, confidence and grade! Ms.Sandy also tutors my 4th grader who also loved the classes and learned so much!

We did a few trial runs with a couple of other tutors and Sandy was easily the most personable. Sandy made it clear that she wasn’t there to just do or help you through homework. My daughter is essentially getting a parallel period of instruction to her regular math class. And because it’s one on one, she can give 100% focus to my daughter. Sandy has also been flexible with a lot of the recent scheduling conflicts that we’ve had and always makes an effort to fit my daughter in. I’m very happy we were able to have Sandy as our daughter’s tutor.

She is very thorough with her work and makes them learn not only the subject content but how to make notes, color code it for quick references and makes them feel confident Of what they are learning.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to customize my classes to each student's needs, so I interview the student and parent to understand the student's learning objectives and current academic load. We also discuss the student's academic objectives beyond this class.

We will discuss the student's preferred learning method and any challenges they face. We will review the current status of their learning (by relevant topic).

Based on the interview the student will be taught on level, honors or AP.

The price depends on the grade and the course. All classes are priced per hour. You only pay for what you sign up for. This is not package pricing.
I work with students of all ages and at different learning levels. I have experience with elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adults. I've worked with students who have special accommodations, ADHD dyslexia, and anxiety. Having personalized one on one lessons allows me to teach them in the way they need.
Talk to the tutor. Make sure you are talking to the person who is teaching you, not a sales person. Also make sure you will have the same tutor every class. Switching instructors is hard because everyone teaches differently. Instead of group classes, have private lessons with the same person. This helps you both understand your learning style and their teaching style. It's important they blend well so you can grow. When considering price, think about the value and time. Be careful you only pay for what you will actually use. Having an experienced tutor who can effectively teach you in 1 hour is much more valuable than spending 3 hours a week on a cheaper resource. Over time, this is much more expensive in terms of money, education and self growth.
Think about the kind of help you want. Just help with homework, review for a test, or learn the course content so you can get ahead in school. Also know when you are available for lessons.
