About this tutor

As a teacher, I feel confident in you or your chils at all levels of work. I quit teaching because I enjoy teaching one on one much more! I love to use and pass on my problem solving skills learned while earning my biochemistry degree.  Don't worry, I have formal training in education-I took masters level classes while teaching in the classroom. Most recently, I taught Chemistry and physical science, but math, middle school science and English are all under my belt as well. I feel confident in tutoring almost every subject. ACT and general test prep/test anxiety can't be forgotten, either. Time management, study skills and encouraging the love of learning are all included in my skill set as well :)

I love nurturing a love of knowledge and confidence. I know what a difference several teachers made in my life, so I hope for half of that difference in my clients :)

Sherrie is very reliable and knows her math. She has been very helpful with Algebra for my 8th grader! A very nice person!

Sherrie has been a blessing to my daughter in High school chemistry and algebra 2. She is so smart and does a wonderful job presenting difficult information in a fun and easy to understand way. If I could give more than 5 stars I would !

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I start by acccessing, typically casually without a formal test, where the gaps in knowledge exist. I also place a lot of value in forming a relationship with and getting to know the client.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge $60 an hour-this comes from years of experience as both a classroom teacher and private tutor.

How did you get started teaching?

I started after college teaching high school science. I love education, and feel passionate about how important it is! I also really love science :)

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with two year olds to post college adults! I have experience with reluctant learners, struggling students, special needs, and more!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

I think something that is overlooked is the comfortability to communicate with a tutor. Make sure you can say when you are confused without feeling embarrased!
