About
Since graduating from the University of Arizona in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a minor in crative writing, my career as a professional writer has been a great joy. I have written for a variety of magazines including Luxury Las Vegas magazine (which has recently closed due to company changes) as well as Vegas.com where I covered entertainment in the city. I've always had a passion for creative writing and am excited to share with students how the process of creating a story can be challenging but ultimately fun. Yes, a blank page is daunting but it is also an opportunity to write a piece that will be rewarding. Students will realize this when they feel excited to share their final piece with others. If a student is feeling stumped, confused, or maybe just unmotivated, it is an honor to step in as a tutor to help all students see that they too can be a great writer. Let's do this!
As a journalist and creative writer, I love the process of gathering information and putting it into a great piece. Compressing interviews and placing quotes into the right places in stories is always rewarding. Similarly, I like knowing that while the work may sometimes be frusturating, I know that it will be finished and it will give me a sense of pride. I also love writing because it is a way to untangle thoughts and put them into a well-rounded, comprehensive piece. As a tutor, it is my passion to help students achieve the same sense of accomplishment.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I work with a new student, I like to start by learning about them. We will discuss their hobbies and personal interests, their favorite school subjects, as well as subjects that they find frusturating. We will also explore the challenges they are facing with the assignment at hand. Depending on the assignment topic, we will breakdown where they are feeling stuck and collaborate on a plan to get them feeling confident in being able to not only write something great but learn tools along the way to elevate their confidence in future writing work. My goal with each student is to guide them to realize that writing is a great place to be creative while also teaching them how to access their creativity, which will inspire their work. At the end of each tutoring session, students will have learned a variety of new skills and see writing as a positive challenge rather than an impossible one. Additionally, students will have an understanding of correct grammar (as well as tips and tricks to remember propper grammar), punctuation, spelling and more. My method of tutoring is inviting, enjoyable, and time together that students look forward to.
