Devanie's Learning Lab
About
Hi everyone,
My name is Devanie and I am a current college senior that is looking to expand on one of my greatest passions: spreading knowledge. To do this, I am offering remote tutoring (through zoom) to anyone that needs help with the following services:
1. English/writing (up to high school level): Writing, how to structure a paper, how to write a paper, how to prepare for college, etc.
2. Math: Algebra 1 and Algebra 2
3. Science: I will be focusing on basic science up to 8th grade
4. Social Studies: This can be up to a high school level.
I have had two years of teaching/volunteering experience in both elementary and high schools as well as experience with young children through nannying. I am happy to develop lesson plans (that will include a powerpoint, 1 handout per session that we will work through together, and a take-home review) if the student is wanting to target a specific topic area or concept.
I can't wait to work with you!
I love to share the knowledge that I have learned over the years. With this, I believe that my mission in life is to give back to the teachers, the mentors, etc that poured so much into me. Through my work, I want to be an inspiration to another person, to guide them through his/her studies, and to see that lightbulb light up when he/she understands a concept.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I will follow this process:
1. Before anything, I introduce myself, ask the student how he/she is, develop a common interest (such as Star Wars, marvel, etc) that I can relate to the concept we will be studying. [For example, if we are working through the structure of an essay and I know the student is a Star Wars fan, I may talk about the structure of the Jedi Order and how we can apply it to writing a paper.]
2. The 1st half of the session are spent targeting what we will talk about, assessing what the student knows, and then making a game plan with the student and setting goals (this looks different between elementary, middle, and high school)
3. The 2nd half of the session is spent talking through/working through concepts with the student to assess the learning of the concept.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
-I have a High School Diploma and have been tutoring privately since my 9th grade year
-I am a nanny for kids K-12 regularly
-I have taught/volunteered to teach in elementary schools and high schools in STEM for the past two years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
40 minute session (can be split into two sessons of 20 minutes): English/Writing, Social Studies, and Science would be $20 per 40 minute session.
Cancellation policy: If you cancel within 24 hours of our session, there is no fee. If you cancel less than 24 hours from our session, there will be a $5 fee added to the total session cost upon rescheduling.
