About
I'm Dr. Jessa, a ten year veteran teacher with a doctor of philosophy degree in the education discipline. I have experience working with students from Kindergarten to College level. I have taught Chinese Kenpo, science, mathematics, communications, reading and writing as well as English as a Second Language. My passion and love for learning are evident in my teaching style, as I encourage and excite my students to be passionate learners. I thrive on innovation and creativity and like to help students think critically, solve problems, and apply their knowledge. Students thrive on engaging classes where they are actively working to achieve an objective. I give students frequent and consistent feedback during and after class so that they can improve upon and master each task. I get to know my students as individuals and customize each session to maximize his or her strengths and develop areas of weakness. Mistakes present new opportunities for us to learn and I emphasize an "I can do this" mentality to help students have a positive attitude for learning. I like to have fun, play games, and make learning a memorable experience. I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of your child's educational journey. Please contact me for a free 15 minute session to learn more about your family's educational needs.
I am passionate about learning and if I can help others develop a love for learning too, well that is a huge reward. I enjoy meeting people and helping them find ways to study or experience learning that work well for them. Every student is an individual and unique. I have fun using creative and innovative strategies to get my students excited and engaged.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to provide a free 10 to 15 minute phone call or online session to learn more about my student's needs. This allows us to meet each other and talk about the services I offer and what the student is interested in. After this, we schedule our lessons together and get started! I typically either work with students on assignments that they already have or I design customized curriculum to help them master skills they are seeking.

How did you get started teaching?
My love for teaching began as a child. I played pretend with stuffed animals and loved to imagine I was the teacher. As a young adult, I worked with children as a nanny and Sunday school teacher. I volunteered at many events to entertain the children and provide fun activities for them. This passion continued as I attended college to be an educator. I began teaching as a full time math and science teacher. I have continued teaching at all levels online, face to face and in blended learning environments. I also continue volunteering as a cub scout den leader and in after school programs. I enjoy teaching and I love learning new things! I am always researching and finding new and interesting ideas to share with my children, family, friends and students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of ages and abilities:
Preschool, elementary, middle, and high school
Community college and University tutor and adjunct faculty
Special needs and individual learning plans experience
English as a Second Language students
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When considering the ideal tutor, consider what you need to gain from the experience. Do you need an expert in a specific subject area? Maybe someone who can help you develop your skills? Are you in need of a one time session or ongoing lessons?
I won't pressure any student to work with me over another tutor or teacher. If a student is interested, please take me up on that free 10 minute session and meet me. Decide then if I am the tutor for you.
