Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I try to get to know a new student by asking them questions or playing a short game. Then based on what the parent has told me they would like me to work on with their child, I would do a few quick assessments to get a better idea of where to start. Once I have a starting place, we can begin.
As I work with my students, I typically follow the I do, we do, you do approach. First, I model and explain. Next, I guide as they try. After that I continue stepping back as they take more ownership and assist only as needed. At the end of each session, I ask my students to do a short independent task without assistance. This task gives me the information I need to know if the student can perform the skill on his/her own or if I need to try a new strategy or approach at our next session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been an educator for seven years. I have taught 5th and 6th grade English and Language Arts, 5th grade social studies, and 1st grade (all subjects). I have also substitute taught all grade levels.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $15 per 30 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because I wanted a career where I could work with children. I think the role of a teacher in a child's life can be so valuable to build self-esteem, confidence, social skills, and knowledge.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students in all grade levels. The majority of my teaching experience has been elementary aged.
