About

I am a certified elementary educator with seven years of teaching experience including grades 1,5, and 6.

Most of my experiene as a 5th and 6th grade teacher was focused on reading and social studies. In 1st grade, I taught all subjects, including STEM activities.

I can work with your child on the basic skills of how to read or how to understand and learn from what they are reading. I can assist with skills including phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, reading with fluency, writing, comprehension, and speech.

If English is your child's second language, I have several years of experience working with students who speak another first language and many strategies to help your child succeed!

I can assist your child with elementary math skills including number sense, addition and subtraction strategies, and interpeting and creating graphic representations of data.

I can help your child succeed in social studies or science by helping them develop skills to read and comprehend material or by explaining concepts in multiple ways.

I am a fun, creative, and flexible teacher. I will work hard to ensure that we meet the learning goals that you have for your chidl. I love finding the strategy that helps their mental light bulb come on and have devoted my career to helping spark young minds. I would be excited for the opportunity to help your child grow!

Frequently asked questions

First I try to get to know a new student by asking them questions or playing a short game. Then based on what the parent has told me they would like me to work on with their child, I would do a few quick assessments to get a better idea of where to start. Once I have a starting place, we can begin.

As I work with my students, I typically follow the I do, we do, you do approach. First, I model and explain. Next, I guide as they try. After that I continue stepping back as they take more ownership and assist only as needed. At the end of each session, I ask my students to do a short independent task without assistance. This task gives me the information I need to know if the student can perform the skill on his/her own or if I need to try a new strategy or approach at our next session.

I have been an educator for seven years. I have taught 5th and 6th grade English and Language Arts, 5th grade social studies, and 1st grade (all subjects). I have also substitute taught all grade levels.

I charge $15 per 30 minutes.

I started teaching because I wanted a career where I could work with children. I think the role of a teacher in a child's life can be so valuable to build self-esteem, confidence, social skills, and knowledge.

I have worked with all types of students in all grade levels. The majority of my teaching experience has been elementary aged.
