About this tutor

We work with students from age 6 as well as adults.

We provide both one-on-one and group tutoring sessions.

Our mission is to elevate the student's skills and confidence until they no longer need our help!

We have a combined 50 years of experience as trained educators and tutors.

Check us out on Facebook!

We want students to learn what they love, and love what they learn.  I know this sounds ridiculous (how can somebody love [insert difficult subject here]), but you'd be surprised how the attitude changes once the subject is actually grasped!

Sunny Mountain academy recognizes my son's strengths and weaknesses. Griselda and staff treat my son like an individual. During our first visits, I feel like a lot of attention was given to his interests and time was set aside to get to know him better. The scheduling is always flexible and very welcoming. My son looks forward to tutoring and has made many great friends at Sunny Mountain Academy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Every new student meets with their tutor for an introductory session, approximately 15-20 minutes long.  It is during this interaction that goals and purposes are discussed and compatibility is established.   Honestly, we don't want anyone to waste time or money, so it's imperative that we establish from the start whether or not we can actually help the student in front of us.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

We used only workable (proven and tested) methods, but are always on the lookout for new and improved ways, as we want our students to truly benefit from their learning experience.  Obviously, some of these "new and improved" ideas are actually not very workable at all, so we weed out the good from the bad.  You can rest assured that whichever method(s) we use with you, it will be what provides the best results for your situation.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

We offer individual and group tutoring rates.  Please contact us for specific fees, as it depends on the material being covered and the student’s grade/level.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching in 1989 as a corporate trainer for a very large company in Los Angeles.  I maintained that position for over 20 years, until I moved.  I then started coaching professionals from all walks of life: accountants, doctors, contractors, administrative personnel, etc.  And then I got into teaching other teachers!  As a bilingual person, I also provide ESL and ESOL lessons.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have personally worked with students ages 6 to 81.  I began with grade school students and this evolved into helping their parents as well: engineers, accountants, lawyers, doctors, contractors, nannies, chefs, and many more.  I can tutor English, Math, Reading, Writing, and even specific work-related materials such as Blueprints, Diagrams, and Legal Documents.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I recently helped a mother of 3 with her career in the healtcare field.  She was having a lot of difficulty getting her certification as a Registered Dental Assistant as she couldn't seem to complete the requirements.  In a matter of about 10 hours, we had worked through all of her difficulties and she completed her lessons and graduated immediately after.  I'm confident she will succeed as she was taught how to properly study at her pace and for her understanding.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

It is vitally important to find a tutor or teacher or mentor who is truly passionate about helping you achieve your goals.  In my 30 plus years as an educator, I can tell you that my students learn best when they're really having fun.  Some learning methods may seem unorthodox, weird, or even silly but if they work, we use them!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

1. How can I help you help me?

2. What is it I really don't understand about what I'm studying?

3. How willing am I to really learn this subject or area?
