About

***Parents please note: At this time, my availability is limited. I can tutor in a public place (like a McDonalds or a Starbucks) on weeknights after 7pm. I can also tutor on weekends, but please note that I will not be available every weekend. I like to be up front about this so there is no confusion and you are able to find the best tutor to fit your needs.***

I love reading and writing because it opens up a new world to students. It allows us to experience the lives of others and learn to empathize. Reading and writing have provided me a way to experience the world more fully.

I've tutored students in my area on and off throughout the last 5 years. I think it's important for students to understand WHY we complete assignments/problems the way we do and learning the "why" can make all the difference.

My writing has been published in Foothill Poetry Journal and won an honorable mention in the departmental concentration awards at the University of Memphis. I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and have completed several internships - one of which was with a publisher. I graduated Cum Laude with honors in English and have a 3.8 graduate school GPA after my first year enrolled in the MFA in Creativew Writing program.

I love helping others! I love seeing students gain confidence when they start achieving higher grades! Most importantly, I love that gaining an education can make you see the world more vividly. You're able to see the suffering in the world and respond to it with empathy. You're able to see the accomplishments in different fields and appreciate them more than you might have if you didn't have an education.

Frequently asked questions

I find out what they need specifically and whether that is a topic I feel capable of helping them improve in. After I'm certain I can be helpful, I'd schedule a meeting in person in a public place to work with the student. I ask questions to guide them in the right direction, but if they are struggling, will walk them step by step through the assignment so that they can learn the steps themselves. I try to make it clear what the student is good at, as well as what specifically they should focus on improving as we move forward.

I have a BA in English from The University of Memphis and credits toward an MFA in Creative Writing. I also have previous experience tutoring high school students.

I charge $15/hour.

I always helped my younger siblings with their homework growing up and developed a passion for helping others.

Mostly high school students.

I recently watched my boyfriend graduate from college, and I'm very fond of that event/memory!

Hire someone who encourages you but wants you to improve as much as possible. A good tutor should be someone you're comfortable working with and does not make you feel inferior.

Will you need to bring extra material so that you can practice more than just the homework? If you need help in writing, do you need help with brainstorming, clarifying your arguments/points, and/or grammar and sentence clarity? What are your goals for the session? What specifically do you need help with - a certain kind of assignment or a class in general? Take time to talk with your tutor about what your experiences have been in the class and while completing homework so that they can understand what areas you are struggling with.
