Hi everyone! I am a 15-year teaching veteran that has experience working with people from all walks of life. I am currently a special education teacher in a middle school, but I have taught from elementary up to high school. I am patient, fun, willing to work to find a solution, and I have access to all sorts of apps that will help us achieve our goals. I hope to see you soon!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to introduce myself and ask them about themselves. My objective is to make them feel comfortable first of all, and to get them talking! I like to ask them where they go to school, what their favorite subjects are or what else they are studying, what their hobbies are, etc.  Depending on their age, I could ask them what their goals are and what they would like specific help with. Ask about time frames and their current levels/grades, if they are working towards a specific test or a different target.  If the student is old enough (I prefer the middle grades) they can also tell me how they learn best.

I have a Master's Degree in Education, with two active endorsements in special education K-12 (modified and comprehensive.)  I have been teaching and working with the middle school grades since 2008.  I work primarily with 6th and 7th grade math, and most 8th grade.  I also have extensive training with behavioral students with social/emotional issues.

My standard pricing is $35 per hour.  Group tutoring will require negotiation.

I come from a long line of teachers in my family :-)

My mother, grandmother, and other members of both sides have all taught at some points in their lives. I knew it was something I wanted to do when I was very young.

I have worked with all sorts of students!  I am currently a teacher at a Title I school in a military town, where we get kids from all walks of life.

I can describe several:  having a student say that "they hate math" learn how to isolate the y on a slope-intercept form worksheet...by themselves.  Another student who gives up easily had the rest of the class cheer him on to complete a few progress monitoring problems on his own, and get them correct.  Another one is a behavioral student who waits for me every day at the door of my classroom because she can't wait to come into my room...it's a haven for her.

Any student willing to take a chance on me would love to have the opportunity to work together with someone who is going to take the time to get to know them first before we tackle the goals they have set for themselves!

A lot of students have never had tutoring before, but since Covid-19, quite a few have had the experience of virtual schooling.  It will be up to me to set the agenda, but I do need to let them know a few things:  the whole session will be more like a "conversation" instead of school.  They can stop me whenever they don't understand something, and they can ask questions whenever they need to.

True, tutoring sessions will be different than school.  Even though both of us will be building a good relationship, there will be clear expectations.
