About

I'm an Ivy League trained tutor who specializes in math and science.

I got my start in mentoring and tutoring while studying Biology at Colby College. I mentored a middle school student for 2.5 years. We met on a weekly basis during the school year to discuss schoolwork, complete homework assignments, and play learning games.

During my senior year at Colby, I served as a Biology tutor. I was paired with first- and second-year college students who were taking introductory level Biology classes to improve understanding and raise test scores. My students consistently demonstrated great progress, and it was a rewarding experience for both sides.

While studying at Yale University, I was a teaching assistant for an undergraduate Molecular Biology course. I assisted two Yale faculty members in teaching the course by leading a discussion section of 10-15 students, preparing course materials, and grading exams and other assignments. I received great feedback and assessment reviews from my students.

I love teaching and helping students understand complex topics. I enjoy breaking things down into smaller, more manageable concepts. This passion also led me to start a podcast with my wife called "So I Married a Scientist" during which we discuss complex science in understandable ways.

Throughout my education, I have taken numerous standardized tests. Most recently, I took the GRE prior to applying to graduate school and received a 780 on the math section. Because of this, I know the tips, tricks, and methods that go into being successful on these types of exams. I'm happy to share this knowledge and help individuals as they prepare for these important exams.

In general, I have had a lifelong passion for scientific learning and discovery. Science has been my favorite subject since elementary school. I took AP Biology in high school and studied Biology and Biochemistry as an undergraduate student at Colby College. After receiving my Bachelor’s, I studied blood development and cancer progression in a research laboratory at Children's Hospital in Boston. In 2014, I earned a Master’s degree in Immunobiology from Yale University.

My favorite subjects include: Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry and Human Physiology.

Any students looking to improve their science or math skills are encouraged to reach out to discuss tutoring opportunities. I would love to schedule a lesson and help in any way that I can.

Frequently asked questions

I start by having the student explain their tutoring needs and ideal learning style. This helps define what we focus on during our sessions and how we approach the learning process.

Before each session I request the topic/questions in advance (when possible). This helps me best prepare a lesson plan and strategy for covering the topic.

I mentored and tutored while in college and was a teaching assistant for a Biology course while attending Yale University. I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biochemistry (Colby College) and a Master's degree in Immunology (Yale). I have taken college and graduate level courses in a wide range of science and mathematics fields.

I have taken the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and GRE standardized exams. Most recently, I scored a 780 on the math portion of the GRE before applying to graduate schools. I was accepted into the graduate programs at Harvard, Yale, Rockefeller, Cornell, Duke, UNC, and UVA before selecting Yale for my graduate studies.

I typically charge $40-60/hr depending on the topic and travel needs. Lower rates may be available for remote (online) support or based on a commitment to a certain number of sessions.

I've worked with math and science students ranging from middle school age through college undergraduates.

Be very selective when choosing a tutor to work with. Ask as many questions up front as possible to make sure you are comfortable with their style, expertise, and personality.

What are the key focus areas that will provide the most opportunity for improvement and progress?

What are my learning style strengths (memory, thought process, critical thinking, etc.) that allow me to best approach a given topic?
