About

The best part of teaching is watching students' make connections between the words they are reading and the life they are living. To work closely with young minds and watch them grow, discern, and create is the greatest privilege a teacher can have. Private tutoring has allowed me to give one-on-one attention and guidance to scholars to help them further their critical thinking, writing, and reading prowess in a way that traditional classroom teaching has not.

I have worked for five years as a teacher, with most of my experience being in Hamilton County, Tennessee. I have a current teaching license for English Language Arts 6-12. My positions have included work as a high school English teacher (9th, 10th, and 11th grade), a Guided Reading Specialist (6th, 7th, and 8th grade), a Creative Writing teacher (6th, 7th, and 8th grade), and an English teacher for middle grades. I have experience working with diverse populations and diverse needs, and I know a variety of strategies to unlock an individual's potential and modify material for their needs.

My interest in education sparked when I was an undergrad at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. After my first Education 101 class, I knew that I had a calling.

I have worked with students with exceptional needs and students on the ASD spectrum. I have worked with diverse populations of students with vastly different needs, home lives, and prior successes in school. I've worked with students who need to be challenged daily to stay engaged and students who have needed extra time and attention.

Watching my last 8th grade class at Orchard Knob Middle School work to succeed and be ready to graduate to high school brought me to tears. It was a pleasure working with them.
