About

One way that my service stands out is my two years of experience as a Mathnasium instructor. At Mathnasium, we believe in meeting each student right where they are and making math smarter, not harder. We use and teach many strategies that focus on improving computation skills, mental math abilities, and problem solving. I have seen student after student improve in understanding, confidence, and speed, and I am looking forward to helping many more students improve with the skills I have learned at Mathnasium.

I have loved math for as long as I can remember; it has always been my favorite subject. I also enjoy working with and getting to know new students; each one possessing their own unique personality and talents. One of the greatest things about being a math tutor is witnessing the reaction a student has when something they have been struggling with and working hard on finally makes sense. Helping students to realize abilities they didn't know they had and seeing their confidence grow as a result is an amazing feeling. I am so thankful for this job that allows me to do two of my favorite things: math and working with unique individuals.

    Frequently asked questions

I usually start by getting to know them.  I enjoy learning about likes, hobbies, favorite things about school, etc.  I also like to get a feel for where they are in math.  What are they having trouble with?  Have they struggled with math for a few years, or is this recent?  What do they enjoy most about math? Getting a grasp of their strengths and weaknesses helps to pinpoint specific areas that they need to work on.

I started by helping my younger siblings with their schoolwork, especially their math homework.  I really enjoyed helping them; so when I stumbled upon Mathnasium, it seemed like the perfect fit.  I have loved my time there and am looking forward to expanding out to private tutoring.

I have worked with students from Kindergarten through 12th-grade (public-schoolers, private-schoolers, and home-schoolers).

As of yet, I have not worked with students beyond the high-school level, but I am looking forward to doing so.

My advice would be to find someone who you feel comfortable around, explains ideas in a way that makes sense to you, and is willing to spend as much time on a concept as you need. If you don't feel comfortable around them, you will likely experience extra stress and pressure that may make it hard to focus on the math.  If how they are teaching doesn't make sense to you and they do not make any attempt to explain things another way, they are not doing what you have hired them to do. Finally, patience is one of the most important traits in a tutor. Learning and mastering new skills takes time. Speed will come with practice and understanding.
