Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process for working with a new student is to first offer a consultation session with the parents to determine areas of concerns and goals for their child. After the consultation, I will assess the students to determine their areas of weakness and then develop a 6-week plan for the student to work on. Every 6 weeks the parents will be given a progress report to showcase progress the student has been making and we will reassess their goals, and the amount of tutoring session days.

My sister is a teacher and I enjoyed hearing her teaching stories and her passion for educating the youth. Once I entered the profession, I enjoyed teaching and creating innovative lessons. Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my 1st grade tutoring students has made excellent progress in just one month of tutoring. His teacher was mentioning him being retained due to his lack of reading progress. In just one month of intense reading intervention and attending tutoring twice per week, he met his goal and his teacher is seeing excellent progress. Though their is still work to do, we are all proud of his progress.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher is to find someone who is patient and has enthusiasm for teaching various types of learners. I would also recommend someone who has excellent communication skills and someone who can take and provide feedback to help you grow and succeed as a learner.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What do I already know about this topic? What new learning am I being expected to learn now?
2. What is my role in learning this?
3. What is the question that is being ask? What clues from the question can help me find a plan to solve to find the answer.
4. What tools can help me solve to determine a reasonable answer? Can I do the process of elimination? Use a graphic organizer? Reread and look back in the passage to find the answer? Highlight key information?
