I teach with a truly individualized plan for each student rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one student may not work for another. Some students learn best with visual cues, others with auditory cues, some with music, others with movement or tactile cues. I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, depending on what is most successful for each individual student.
Following each session, I provide parents with a report of what we worked on, what successes the student made, and tips on how they can reinforce the learning at home.
I love helping children develop a true love of learning! Helping young children become confident readers, writers, and mathematicians brings me joy. It is particularly rewarding to be able to work one-on-one with students because I can cater to their individual needs and see progress more quickly.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically request any previous assessments, report cards, and/or information from teachers to give me an idea of the student's strengths and weaknesses. On the first session with the student, I informally assess the student to get baseline data and gain insight on the child's learning style and academic needs. Then I develop an individualized plan for teaching the child and modify it as needed throughout the tutoring sessions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor degree in Psychology from Furman University and a Master of Arts (plus 30) in Teaching from University of South Carolina. I obtained a SC Teacher's Certification in Special Education (K-12th) and Early Childhood Education.
I taught for 5 years in an elementary self-contained Special Education classroom, 9 years in a Preschool/Kindergarten classroom, and 4 years in a 1st grade classroom.
I tutored students throughout my college years and my career as a teacher in a variety of one-on-one settings. I have tutored full time for the last 4 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35 for a 45 minute session and $45 for a one hour session in my Forest Acres home.
I take payment via Venmo on the day of the tutoring session.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of students, including nonverbal severely mentally disabled children and adults, children with autism, typically developing children, and gifted elementary-aged students
