Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would ask for families and the student to fill me in on what their strengths are in the subject we are working on. We would also discuss challenges and set goals. I would review any available test scores or report card/progress reports from their school, with family permission and put together a diagnostic assessment. From there, we would set goals and I would plan individual work and practice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a background in elementary education, I have worked with students in every grade K-5. I have been a lead planner in my school for Math curriculum and my students have made exceptional growth in both Reading and Math. I am also certified as an ESL Specialist/Consultant and that is where my daytime work is. I have Bachelor's degrees in both Elementary Education and Spanish, as well as a Master's degree in Urban Education. I was also chosen as a "Golden Apple" winner in 2020 and have been rated as "highly effective" since 2017.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My base rate is $60 per hour. The reason behind this pricing is that not only do I bring my experience and expertise, but the hour that I am working directly with the student will not be the total time spent preparing for and analyzing the lesson data. I will be doing all that I can to prepare for a successful lesson with your student!
If you are looking to have multiple sessions a week, there may be a discount per session since they will likely build off of each other and not require unique prep work for each session.
How did you get started teaching?
I always loved working with kids and helping them with homework in my after school program in middle school. I also found it hard to pick one subject to major in because I loved them all! After beginning college, I was even more drawn to the social justice side of education and began studying educational inequities and reform.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students from all socio-economic, racial, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. I have also worked with students who hav IEPs for Reading or Math disabilities, students on the Autism Spectrum, as well as gifted students who need to be challenged.
