Nicole's Tutoring
About
I am dedicated to helping others in their studies to improve and excel. I have been a peer tutor for over two years in which I have watched students improve their writing skills immensely.
I enjoy watching my students develop and render useful skills in writing that will only help to excel them in their future. The moment in which a student is excited for their work because they have seen their own improvement is truly riveting and I hope to continue watching students improve.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I introduce myself to the student and examine their writing techniques to see where I can help them improve. I start with a basic writing assessment to develop a sense of their writing habits and work towards improving them by breaking each essential of writing down.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked with many students in multiple genres of writing over the years and have seen immense improvements amongst all of them.

I typically charge $20 an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started peer tutoring in high school and have continued to help other students throughout college.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from grades 6 to 12.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had one student come in in need of discussing an essay involving denotation and connotation and the development of a central idea. We went over each section of the paragraph she had written to break down how to better explain her quotes and relate back to the central theme. Later that week, I had her write an assessment similar to that of the first one and to include all of the techniques I informed her of. When I read over her latest attempt, it was so gratifying to be able to tell her of all the great improvements she made on her writing that all aligned with the suggestions I had given her. She was actually excited to write the next assignment knowing she was improving. I got to watch that same girl get into college after I assisted her with her essay. Knowing I was a part of that process made all the work worthwhile.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick a teacher that will not only criticize and help but become a part of your learning. Let that teacher have patience as all good things come with time and understanding. Let your teacher be one that will be proud of every single improvement and who is excited to watch you grow with them.
