Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with new students, I typically like to give a small pretest to gauage where that student is. Afterwards when I am able to figure out their areas of weakness, I like to focus on that. Instead of just giving a bunch of practice problems, I like to get back to the basics on the material and even reteach it oif necesssary. Once I see the student have a grasp of the concept, then we do a bunch of practice problems to get used to the steps.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've taken math classes all the way up to Calculus 2. I attend a top 20 liberal arts schools in the country, and the academics there are no joke. In high schoool, i tutored over 15 high school students up to 10 hours a week. I was also apart of the National Honors Society.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typically a tutoring session is $25 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
In High School, before I was inducted into the National Honors Society, 20 hours of community service work was required. So I tutored underclassman after school to complete my hours. Once I was inducted, I had to complete between 5-10 hours weekly tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students between 6th-10th grade. I am more than capable of working with younger students as well as older.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This past summer, I started a non-profit organization called Athletes Taking Action where collegiate and high school sports teams would donate to a Black Lives Matter Organization and challenge another team to do so. In the span of 2 months I've raised over $70,000 to over 30 different charities/organizations. It was definitely one of my best accomplishments. Check it out @atachallenge via instagram.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I know no one likes math, but I love it. A lot of it has to do with the teacher. If you want to learn and improve your math skills in a fun and interactive way, then I'm your guy.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I am open to do remote tutoring if COVID-19 protocols are a concern for you
