About
Hi, I'm Sirish! I graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry.
I have over 9 years of experience tutoring students in a range of subjects. I started tutoring in high school as an Algebra tutor. In college, I was an Organic Chemistry teaching assistant for 2 years. I assisted students in class and held weekly review sessions as well as small group and one-on-one meetings. After college, I founded and operated a tutoring service full-time for over 3 years, teaching clients from middle school through college in math, science, and the SAT. I currently serve as a full-time tutor/mentor in AmeriCorps, helping unprivileged high school students in Pittsburgh and specializing in Math and Science. In my free time, I also tutor some students on a voluntary basis.
I love seeing students progress and grasp concepts, especially in subjects they struggle with or in which they have fear or anxiety. I aim to show students that learning subjects in school is just like succeeding their hobbies and activities: All you need is put in the time, practice, and make a good effort. I try to instill a growth mindset in students and show them that they don't need to be a "math person" to do well in math.
I am focused on teaching students concepts so that they are truly learning and can be independent, confident learners.
I have a strong science background and extensive experience teaching biology, chemistry, and physics at the high school and college level.
I adapt based on a student and his/her parents' needs and love making a positive impact on young people's lives. Please contact me if you have any questions and to schedule a lesson. I am happy to provide free consultations to interested potential clients.
