I believe that learning is a process of discovery, and I strive to teach students how to think critically and independently regardless of subject area.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session is always free; it is used to establish a general learning timeline and hourly rate appropriate to the student's goals, and to ensure that our teaching style and expertise is a good fit for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 20 university courses taught, designed, and/or assistant taught (U.Cincinnati, CMU, Pitt).
PhD: Philosophy of Science
MS: Biology
MA: Philosophy (ethics)
BA: Philosophy; History and Philosophy of Science
minor: Economics
Diversity training and 3+ years experience as a peer tutor at Pitt (Biology, Econ, Composition, Logic, Philosophy).
7+ years Industry experience in Biomedical Engineering (Surgical Oncology).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The first session is always FREE.
Thereafter we will submit a learning plan and a rate quote specific for the student, ranging from ~$40<->~$125/hour. There is no obligation on the part of the student/parent to continue service after the first free session.
The most intensive learning plans require substantial prep-work for the tutor outside of teaching sessions, resulting in higher rates (e.g. individually tailored SAT/GRE prep). Less intensive, online assistance with homework and review of school materials/notes starts at ~$40/hour.
