Working with Ian Davis has been one of the most beneficial elements in my children’s education. Ian has a way of drawing out students to their full potential. He is able to meet the student where they are and bring them to the next level rather quickly. His expertise and phenomenal personality makes the students comfortable and desirous of working harder. He not only helps students become phenomenal speakers, he does the more important thing. He teaches them to believe what they’re saying. Challenging students to really grasp the depth of the topic, the emotion behind the text, the gravity of the subject, their reason for speaking, Ian gets to the heart of the matter. This is what makes great communicators ... authenticity. The student no longer is afraid of speaking, rather they begin to realize that it’s a calling. I wish there was a higher recommendation level, I would give it. The five children of mine that Ian worked with are more confident people because of their time with him. And if you’re learning to speak for some type of competition, hold your hat because he pretty much brings everybody to the national level.

When I was in high school, I competed in a national speech and debate league, and I used Called2Communicate to better my speech delivery, presentations, and more. Little did I know how useful the techniques I learned would prove to be in college and beyond! I now work in communications on Capitol Hill, and I still find myself referencing Ian Davis's instructions. Whether you're in high school, a young professional, or a seasoned veteran, you will be able to learn something from Called2Communicate.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We'll have a video discussion to fully understand the student's needs.  If I can help, then we discuss and agree on specific goals, and a plan of action.

The coaching is typically online as most students are too far away.  Some students receive in-person coaching.

We will work with whatever projects/assignments the student wants to use.  If there are none, I'm happy to provide them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a state and national champion in multiple countries in multiple categories of competitive speaking/debating.  I have a 30-year career as a business executive and a professional coach.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$50 / hour for each hour of direct coaching or coaching preparation is the normal rate.

Special situations can be discussed on an individual basis.

How did you get started teaching?

My very first teaching assignment was during college.  I was asked by my high school AP English teacher to come back and  teach her AP English class during summer school.  From there, I entered a segment of business that involved training/coaching.  I have been involved in some form of training/education for 40 years.

What types of students have you worked with?

English speaking students who are passionate about communicating well.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Every time a student tells me of their success in achieving their goals.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Trust the teacher.  Let them lead you.  Give things a try.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What do I want to get out of this coaching?  How do I want to be a different / better person at the end of this?

What will you expect of me as a student?  Can I do what you're asking of me?
